On February 4, 2025, Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos had to say goodbye to their beloved dog, Chewie, at the age of 17. On the February 5 episode of “Live with Kelly and Mark,” the couple shared about the difficult decision. Mark said Chewie had stopped eating for several days, was severely dehydrated, and had neurological problems. They decided to euthanize Chewie at their New York apartment.
Kelly, through tears, recalled how Chewie grew up with their children and became an important part of the family. “We were so grateful for him… As each of our children left home to go to college and become independent, Chewie was there, a loyal companion.”
The surrounding community also expressed their grief for Chewie. Kelly said that friends and neighbors, including the mailman, came to say goodbye to Chewie, showing that the dog was not only a member of the family but also a beloved member of the neighborhood.
Chewie brought joy and love to the Ripa-Consuelos family for 17 years. Chewie’s passing is a big loss, but the memories of this beloved dog will forever be in their hearts.

Consuelos explained that Chewie had stopped eating and was severely dehydrated.
“She had some neurological issues going on,” he shared, adding that while the decision was the right one, it was one of the hardest things they had done together as a married couple.
The family had a veterinarian come to their home to ensure Chewie’s final moments were peaceful and surrounded by love.
