Vin Diesel asks Dwayne Johnson to return to the ‘Fast and Furious’ series after a heated conflict ‘It’s time to…

Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson have been open about their feud after co-starring in several Fast and Furious instalments

Vin Diesel has made public a plea for Dwayne Johnson to return to the Fast and Furious franchise, despite his personal problems.

The two actors have made no secret of their ongoing feud after co-starring together in several installments of the franchise, but Diesel, 54, seemed to want to put their differences behind them in an Instagram post on Sunday. He asked Johnson, 49, to return for Fast & Furious 10, one of the final two planned films in the much-loved series.

“My little brother Dwayne… the time has come,” he wrote alongside a photo of himself with Johnson in Fast Five. “The world awaits the end of Fast 10. As you know, my kids refer to you as Uncle Dwayne in my house. There isn’t a holiday that goes by where you and them don’t send each other well wishes… but the time has come.”

“The legacy awaits,” Diesel continued. “I told you years ago that I was going to keep my promise to Pablo. I swore that we would reach and manifest the best Fast in the end which is 10! I say this out of love… but you must show up, don’t leave the franchise dormant, you have a very important role to play.”

“Hobbs cannot be played by anyone else,” he concluded, referencing Johnson’s character in the franchise. “I hope you rise to the occasion and fulfill your destiny.”

Johnson has not publicly responded to Diesel’s post, and a rep for the actor did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

The public first became aware of Diesel and Johnson’s rocky relationship in 2016, when Johnson criticized her male The Fate of the Furious co-stars on Instagram, writing, “Some carry themselves like men of integrity and true professionals, while others don’t. The ones that don’t are too cowardly to do anything about it anyway. Sweet asses.”

In June, Diesel addressed his beef with his former co-star, telling Men’s Health, “I could give a lot of tough love. Not in a Fellin way, but I would do whatever it took to get performances in whatever I was producing.”

Months later, Johnson reacted to the “tough love” comments in an interview with Vanity Fair.

“Part of me feels like there’s no way I can dignify any of that shit with a response,” he told the outlet in October. “I’ve been in a lot of things. Unlike [Diesel], I don’t come from a theater world. And, you know, I grew up differently and I was raised differently.”

Johnson continued: “I come from a completely different culture and environment. And I go into every project giving it my best shot. And if I feel like there are things that need to be worked out and handled and resolved, then I do it. And it’s that simple. That simple. So when I read that, like everyone else, I laughed. I laughed a lot. We all laughed. And I’m sure somewhere Fellini is laughing, too.”

Johnson confirmed to Vanity Fair that he only agreed to appear in 2017’s The Fate of the Furious if he didn’t have to share any scenes with Diesel.

“I wanted to forego the drama,” he said. “I thought it was the best thing to do. For everyone.”

The Jungle Cruise star, who added that he and Diesel are “philosophically two different people,” also shot down some of his co-star’s claims about their relationship, including her 2017 comment to USA Today, in which she told the outlet, “I protected Dwayne more than he’ll ever know… but he appreciates it. He knows he only has one older brother in the movie world, and that’s me.”

Johnson told Vanity Fair in response, “I have one older brother, and he’s my half-brother. And that’s it.”
